The grad track program offers students the opportunity for a seamless pathway to a Master of Arts degree in French. Students can begin taking graduate-level courses while still working towards their undergraduate degree. You'll master language skills through combining required coursework and other learning opportunities.The M.A. degree allows you to teach language courses at a community college, university or in public and private schools. Other options include teaching-intensive language programs, working as a translator or interpreter, or in international studies. Teaching intensive language programs can prepare you for working with business professionals and multinational corporations. You may also work in the tourism industry.

Why Earn Combined French Degrees?

The Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures offers a degree in French, as well as a professional certification. The professional certification is useful for careers in travel and tourism, and business.

You will become proficient in speaking, reading and writing the language you choose. You may spread your beginning and intermediate requirements over four semesters or accelerate your schedule.

Our faculty members include native speakers, leaders in national and international organizations and award-winning professors.

UNT provides a wide variety of services exclusively to graduate students. The Graduate Student Writing Support office can help you with writing, and the Toulouse Graduate School® offers several professional development workshops. Among the workshops is a Thesis Boot Camp. Many of the workshops are available online for your convenience.

The graduate faculty in the field of French specialize in applied linguistics; culture and civilization; Medieval literature; literature of the 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries; women's studies; Québec; and second language acquisition.

Combined French Degrees Highlights

We work closely with the Study Abroad office to provide multiple opportunities for international work and study. These opportunities allow you to immerse yourself in the language and experience the culture first hand.
We offer a variety of opportunities to practice French and learn more about the cultures, including conversation groups and film series.
Our World Language Learning Center provides 80 computer workstations, more than 30 software programs for self-study and assignments, multi-language audio and video media and presentation equipment.
The Career Center, Learning Center and professional academic advisors are among the many valuable resources that are available to you at UNT. The Career Center can provide advice about internships, future employment opportunities and getting hands-on experience in your major.
Our faculty members' varied backgrounds include extensive research, travel and study in Europe, Canada and Africa, and involvement in professional organizations.

Selected readings and video sequences in contemporary French culture with emphasis on communication skills.

Advanced French grammar, morphology, phonology and syntax.
New Technologies for Teaching French (3 hrs)
Current pedagogical frameworks combined with practical applications related to the use of the new technologies for teaching French.
History of the French Language (3 hrs)
Consideration of all aspects of the development of the French language with concentration on internal development (phonology, morphology and syntax) from Latin to Modern French.
Advanced French Conversation (3 hrs)
Study of themes related to contemporary French experience and heavily oriented toward conversation on topics of interest to contemporary youth.
