The Bachelor of Arts in Japanese, offered by the Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures, provides insight into world cultures and languages.

Representing many world languages, literatures and cultures, our dedicated faculty promote excellence in research, teaching and professional service. Second-year Japanese students have a unique study abroad oppurtunity. The group starts out on campus with intensive study for 3½ weeks, then travels together to Japan for another 3½ weeks of study and first-hand cultural experience.We offer a variety of opportunities to practice Japanese and learn more about the cultures, including conversation groups and film series.Our World Language Learning Center provides 80 computer workstations, more than 30 software programs for self-study and assignments, multi-language audio and video media and presentation equipment.The Career Center, Learning Center and professional academic advisors are among the many valuable resources that are available to you at UNT. The Japanese degree program is a branch of the language arts that emphasizes the four language skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Upon graduation, graduates should be able to read diverse Japanese texts as well as express ideas about complex social and literary issues using correct grammatical Japanese.

Opportunities for graduates include graduate study, education, foreign service, and international business. Students majoring in Japanese study one of the major languages of the industrial world and prepare in literature, language, culture, and linguistics for professions in international business, banking, trade, travel, and other professions in the public and private sectors.
