Writing inventions, chorale preludes and other 18th-century forms.</course-description-1><course-title-2>Form Analysis (3 hrs)</course-title-2><course-description-2>Structural principles of 18th- and 19th-century music determined by analysis of major composers’ works, larger instrumental and vocal forms.</course-description-2><course-title-3>Schenkerian Analysis (3 hrs)</course-title-3><course-description-3>Analysis of tonal music according to the theory of structural levels and methods of graphic analysis developed by Heinrich Schenker.</course-description-3><course-title-4>Twentieth-Century Techniques (3 hrs)</course-title-4><course-description-4>Dodecaphonic and atonal set theory techniques as applied to representative works of the 20th century.</course-description-4><course-title-5>Advanced Colloquium in Music Theory (3 hrs)</course-title-5><course-description-5>In consultation with the instructor, each student is to develop a major paper on a specialized topic in music theory, as appropriate to advanced undergraduate standing.</course-description-5><course-title-6>Sixteenth-Century Counterpoint (3 hrs)</course-title-6><course-description-6><span>Contrapuntal procedures of 16th-century composers.
