The Studio Art M.F.A. Printmaking program integrates creative research, contemporary theory, and studio practice culminating in a solo exhibition.
While in the Studio Art M.F.A. program, you will engage in fine art critical practice using ideas and methodologies from across all seven disciplines in the College of Visual Arts and Design. Housed in a world-class Tier 1 research institution, the vibrant cultural capitals of Dallas and Fort Worth are a short drive from the UNT Art Building.

Studio Art Master’s with a Concentration in Printmaking HighlightsAccess to a diverse collection of printmaking assets including four lithography presses, seven relief, intaglio and monotype presses and a large assortment of ink rollers and brayers, lithography stones, squeegees, intaglio hand tools and mokuhanga tools.A letterpress room within the studio that houses two restored clam-shell letterpresses and a Vandercook letterpress.A series of rooms for photo-print processes including a dark room with three exposure units and a photopolymer platemaker, a screen-drying room and wash-out room.A dedicated etching room with vertical tanks for Ferric Chloride-based intaglio etching.Graduate courses include the M.F.A. Seminar, Professional Practices, M.F.A. Theory and Rotating Topics Courses.The CVAD Printmaking Studio includes two spacious light-filled open-concept classroom spaces for lithography, intaglio, relief and monotype and one for screen printing and bookmaking.What Can You Do With a Studio Art Master’s with a Concentration in Printmaking?This degree will prepare graduates for diverse career pathways in the following areas.

Printmakers may join co-operatives with other printers and develop small businesses selling commercial items featuring their work. Graduates may be self-employed business owners or work for manufacturers or large-scale studios.
Additional employment opportunities include the creation of branded merchandise, posters, sign making, gallery curation and management.

Studio Art Master’s with a Concentration in Printmaking Courses You Could TakeSeminar in University Art Teaching (3 hrs)Study of problems unique to university art faculty; professional practices in various fields of art teaching.Praxis: Rotating Topics (3 hrs)Readings, discussion and/or studio exploration of various art issues. Praxis graduate seminars are intensive topical or single discipline-based courses which encourage innovation, the development of a new method, idea and results. Seminars vary in structure offering a blend of reading/writing/presentation/discussion and studio practice/group critique.Professional Practices for the Studio Artist (3 hrs)Introduces and examines a wide range of strategies for developing a professional practice as a working visual artist.M.F.A. Project In Lieu of Thesis Research (3 hrs)Art research and practice for creative project in lieu of thesis. Typically taken with project in lieu of thesis supervisory committee chair in consultation with the supervisory committee.M.F.A. Project in Lieu of Thesis (3 hrs)Art research and practice for creative project.
