A minor in Spanish demonstrates to future employers and/or graduate schools that you have achieved a certain level of linguistic ability and understanding of Hispanic cultures.</p>
<p>The Spanish minor is designed to enable students to develop advanced Spanish skills in speaking, reading, and writing while acquiring a solid background in the complex history, literature, cultures, and intellectual traditions of Spain, Latin America, and the Latino US, as well as develop speaking skills in their field of expertise.</p></why-earn-this><this-program-will-teach-you-label/><this-program-will-teach-you/><program-highlights-label/><program-highlights-1/><program-highlights-2/><program-highlights-3/><program-highlights-4/><program-highlights-5/><program-highlights-6/><career-outlook-label/><career-outlook/><courses-label/><course-title-1>Advanced Grammar (3 hrs)</course-title-1><course-description-1><span>Advanced study of Spanish grammar with emphasis on especially challenging aspects for Spanish language learners.</span></course-description-1><course-title-2>Advanced Composition (3 hrs)</course-title-2><course-description-2><span>Both native and non-native learners of Spanish will improve their writing abilities in the language by writing diverse types of compositions.</span></course-description-2><course-title-3>Spanish Translation (3 hrs)</course-title-3><course-description-3><span>Basic techniques of translating written texts from Spanish to English and from English to Spanish with emphasis on literary texts. Taught in Spanish and English, where appropriate.</span></course-description-3><course-title-4>Readings in Spanish-American Short Story (3 hrs)</course-title-4><course-description-4><span>Selected readings in Spanish-American short stories with emphasis on techniques for gaining reading fluency in Spanish.</span></course-description-4><course-title-5>Spanish for the Medical Professions I (3 hrs)</course-title-5><course-description-5><span>Emphasizes the Spanish language capabilities needed in the medical field to communicate with Hispanic patients. Includes specialized medical vocabulary, medical scenarios, sample dialogues and information on Hispanic culture related to health care.</span></course-description-5><course-title-6>Spanish for the Medical Professions II (3 hrs)</course-title-6><course-description-6><span>Extension of Spanish for the Medical Professions I, further building the Spanish language skills needed in the medical field to communicate with Hispanic patients and/or employees.
