The Statistics Certificate is a designation indicating specialized study in the field of Statistics as well as an additional advanced course applying Statistics to another discipline such as Chemistry, Economics or Decision Science.</why-earn-this><this-program-will-teach-you-label/><this-program-will-teach-you/><program-highlights-label/><program-highlights-1>The math department funds several scholarships to help you pursue your education. Positions also are available as tutors and graders.</program-highlights-1><program-highlights-2>We host various conferences, seminars and colloquiums that provide different viewpoints and discuss research being conducted in math.</program-highlights-2><program-highlights-3>Students also have access to our mathematics library, which contains more than 500 mathematics journal subscriptions, most of which are available electronically.</program-highlights-3><program-highlights-4>The Math Lab offers you a quiet space to complete homework or receive assistance with specific problems. It’s staffed by students with strong math backgrounds.</program-highlights-4><program-highlights-5>Many of our faculty members are internationally recognized experts in their fields and have worked as consultants for private companies and government agencies.</program-highlights-5><program-highlights-6>According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, statistics is one of the top five most in-demand careers.</program-highlights-6><career-outlook-label/><career-outlook/><courses-label/><course-title-1>Probability (3 hrs)</course-title-1><course-description-1>Combinatorial analysis, probability, conditional probability, independence, random variables, expectation, parameterized distributions, limit theorems, joint distributions, conditional distributions, and correlation.</course-description-1><course-title-2>Statistics (3 hrs)</course-title-2><course-description-2>Sampling distributions, point estimation, interval estimation, hypothesis testing, goodness of fit tests, regression and correlation, analysis of variance, and non-parametric methods.</course-description-2><course-title-3>Quantitative Analysis (3 hrs)</course-title-3><course-description-3>Statistical treatment of data; theory and principles of sampling and transfer techniques, gravimetric, and volumetric methods; introductory instrumental analysis.</course-description-3><course-title-4>Management Science (3 hrs)Introduction to operations research for business decision making. Spreadsheet methods are used to evaluate the following</course-title-4><course-description-4>deterministic models; allocation problems, linear programming, sequencing and scheduling, and network models.</course-description-4><course-title-5>Statistical Research Methods in Geography (3 hrs)</course-title-5><course-description-5>Application of statistical techniques and mathematical models to spatial analysis, including both point and areal patterns.
