Campus Carry information sessions set for April

March 22, 2016

Dear UNT community,

As you may know, the UNT System Board of Regents in February accepted UNT’s Campus Carry Policy, which takes effect Aug. 1 in line with Senate Bill 11 that allows licensed holders to carry concealed handguns on Texas public university campuses.

I encourage you to read the policy, which sets clear guidelines for carrying concealed handguns on our campus, and to participate in the educational sessions being offered.

In April, there will be two informational presentations:

  • Students: 5 to 6 p.m., April 5 (Tuesday) in the University Union Lyceum
  • Faculty and staff: 4 to 5 p.m., April 7 (Thursday) in the University Union Lyceum

Members of UNT's Campus Carry Task Force, which developed the policy with extensive public input, will be on hand to answer your questions and concerns.

Your awareness is key, so these sessions will provide an opportunity for you to get an overview of the state’s “campus carry” law and learn about the UNT Campus Carry Policy. There will be a Q&A session following each presentation.

In the meantime, you can learn more about the process and policy at campuscarry.unt.edu.

I hope you’ll join us for the information sessions.

Sincerely,

Neal Smatresk

President
