Commencement scheduled for April 29 to May 1 – An Official Notice from the President

Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021

Dear UNT students,

Commencement is a culminating college experience, and we are excited to honor the Class of 2021’s achievements on April 30 and May 1 during in-person commencement ceremonies at Apogee Stadium and virtual College Recognition Ceremonies online.

Our socially distanced Apogee Stadium commencement ceremonies will include remarks from the administration and the ceremonial conferral of undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees. While graduates will not cross a stage, we will join together to celebrate their tremendous accomplishments and perseverance. The commencement website includes information about the ceremonies, purchasing regalia, and a preliminary schedule of events. Please note all schedules are subject to change based on RSVP quantities, the status of the pandemic and inclement weather on ceremony days.

In addition to commencement ceremonies, individual graduate recognition will take place during virtual College Recognition Ceremonies premiering on UNT’s YouTube channel. Each graduate's name will be announced and displayed, along with degree granted, Latin Honors and major professor, when applicable.

If you are on track to graduate in Spring 2021, congratulations! Make sure you have applied for graduation by this month’s deadline and watch your email. All future communications regarding Spring 2021 commencement ceremonies – including instructions to RSVP, claim tickets, and submit phonetic name pronunciation – will be sent directly to graduation candidates via their official UNT email accounts in the coming weeks.

We also are excited to announce that UNT will host an in-person commencement ceremony on April 29 at Apogee Stadium to honor Spring and Summer 2020 graduates whose accomplishments could not be celebrated in person last year because of the pandemic. We need your help to get the word out to those alumni. If you’re still in touch with any fellow Eagles who graduated in May 2020 or August 2020, we’d like them to know that their wait is over – they are invited, too! We’ll reach out to them via the Alumni Association soon, so they should update their contact information to ensure they receive their invitation.

As you continue to press toward your UNT degree, remember that the faculty, staff and administration are cheering you on. We are so proud of the ways you have achieved amidst a challenging year, and we look forward to celebrating with many of you at the end of the semester.

UNT Proud,
Neal Smatresk
UNT President
