Expect heavy student foot traffic Wednesday evening, Aug. 21

Aug. 20, 2019

Two programs for new students on Wednesday, Aug. 21, will bring a late afternoon increase in pedestrian traffic to campus streets including Avenue C, Chestnut Street, Highland Avenue and Maple Street.

New first year and transfer students will participate in a New Student Convocation starting at 4 p.m. at the UNT Coliseum. Students participate in this ceremonial type of academic experience as a way to signify the start of their college career.

Immediately following the Convocation's conclusion at about 5 p.m., students will walk toward the heart of campus to participate in Mean Green Fling on the University Union south lawn and Library Mall. More than 400 student organizations are invited to participate, along with university departments and off-campus groups. Attendance typically reaches around 8,500.

These two events are likely to draw significant crowds coming from the UNT Coliseum as well as residence halls across campus during the 5 p.m. hour when many UNT community members are typically leaving campus after work.

Please be aware and make travel plans accordingly.
