Dear UNT community,
Today, during a meeting with the deans, I announced that College of Business Dean Finley Graves will serve as interim provost and vice president for academic affairs, effective March 1.
I want to thank Dr. Graves in advance for his service. And, as Dr. Warren Burggren assumes his positon as a full professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and undertakes research full time, I want to recognize him for his leadership and record of successes as provost and vice president. I’m certain Dr. Burggren will continue to be an exemplary researcher-scholar on a global scale, especially as he undertakes work on a major new research grant.
I also am certain that working in close partnership with the other vice presidents, deans and university leaders, Dr. Graves will maintain forward progress on our plan for action. As an administrator who has served ably as a dean and who has in-depth knowledge of academic affairs, I am confident he will continue to help us achieve our priorities in the academic, student retention and success, research, and operational and physical infrastructure arenas.
Next month, I plan to convene a representative search committee and launch a national search for a new provost and vice president for academic affairs. Meanwhile, I am continuing my listening tour of UNT’s colleges and academic departments.
I hope you’ll join me in thanking Dr. Graves for his service as the interim leader, and will continue to do all that you can to support our efforts to build an ever better academic and research enterprise for our students and the communities we serve.
