Dear UNT community,
I am proud to announce that Texas Governor Greg Abbott, left, will deliver the keynote address during UNT’s inaugural University-wide commencement ceremony on May 16.
I can think of no one better to celebrate the accomplishments of our students and kick off our yearlong 125th anniversary celebration. This year’s graduation will be the first university-wide graduation, and will be full of great family events and surprises. We expect a crowd of 25,000 and know all who attend will be inspired by our governor and our graduating class of 2015.
Gov. Abbott’s message of hope and inspiration will resonate with all of us and leave a lasting impression on the Class of 2015.
The 48th governor of the State of Texas, Gov. Abbott was elected as the first new governor in 14 years in November and took office in January. Before being elected governor, he was Texas’ longest-serving attorney general. As governor, he has put forth a vision to build a better future for Texas founded in part on economic opportunity and education excellence. Raised in Duncanville and a graduate of Duncanville High School, Gov. Abbott maintains a strong connection to the North Texas region.
We look forward, with great enthusiasm, to welcoming Gov. Abbott and first lady Cecilia Abbott to our campus. I am appreciative and honored that they will join us for this momentous occasion.
