There are many events this spring to celebrate and honor our campus community. Mark your calendars now and plan to join us!


New Residence Hall and Tour Center Groundbreaking:

  • When: 1 p.m. Feb. 27 (Monday)
  • Where: 1413 W. Maple St. (Next to Kerr Hall)
  • Details: The event is hosted by UNT System, UNT Office of the President and UNT Office of Student Affairs. RSVP by sending an email to Parking will be available in Highland Street Garage. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the Kerr Hall Lobby.


March is Staff Appreciation Month. UNT will host events and learning sessions to honor UNT’s amazing staff. During the month of March, InHouse will include a special section showcasing the next week’s events and trivia contest with weekly winners receiving UNT prize packs. Service Awards: UNT will recognize more than 500 employees who have reached a milestone service anniversary between five and 50 years. Join us to celebrate this year’s honorees.

  • When: 3 p.m. March 2 (Thursday)
  • Where: Union, Large Ballroom
  • Menu: Light hors d’oeuvres

Eaglethon: A year-long fundraising program benefiting Cook Children’s Medical Center and the Children’s Miracle Network.

  • When: 2:30 p.m. to Midnight March 3 (Friday)
  • Where: Union Ballrooms
  • Menu: Various food will be served throughout the event.
  • Details: The fundraising effort ends with the main event (the Eaglethon), an 8-hour celebration including a dance and other activities to celebrate the children helped by Children's Miracle Network Hospitals each year. Participants can register on the CLS website or purchase tickets at the door.

Union Fest: Annual celebration of UNT’s Student Union. The day is filled with a variety of events, cake, food and giveaways!

  • When: 8 a.m. to Midnight March 8 (Wednesday)
  • Where: University Union
  • Menu: Cupcakes at 1 p.m., coffee cake and coffee at Wells Fargo in the morning, and various samples from the vendor fair.

The Big Event: A nationally recognized day of service celebrated by the UNT community. Each spring, volunteers contribute over 10,000 hours of service in several Denton County cities.

  • When: 7:30 a.m. to noon March 25 (Saturday)
  • Where: Onstead Promenade/Library Mall, then various work locations all around Denton County
  • Menu: Breakfast will be served.
  • Details: Individual students, student organizations, faculty, staff and alumni are welcome to participate. Participants must register in advance.

Wingspan Gala: The sold out gala is a black tie and boots formal affair being held at 5:30 p.m. March 25 (Saturday) at the UNT University Union benefiting the President’s Scholarship Fund. Eli Young Band will make a special appearance preceding their concert.

Eli Young Band Concert: Eli Young Band, whose members are all UNT alumni, will play an exclusive concert for UNT students, faculty, staff, UNT Alumni Association members and their guests.

  • When: 8:30 p.m. March 25 (Saturday)

Staff Appreciation Month: The celebration ends on a high note with the Staff Appreciation Lunch to honor staff members and Staff Appreciation Award winners. Join us!

  • When: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 30 (Thursday)
  • Where: UNT Coliseum. A Staff Appreciation Lunch for staff members at Discovery Park is planned for the same time.
  • Menu: Beef and chicken fajitas with grilled vegetables, cilantro rice, seasoned beans, Mexican salad, chips and salsa.
  • If you miss it: The event will be streamed live and recorded for later viewing in case you can’t attend.
  • Details: Carpooling is encouraged, and no parking tickets will be issued in the Fouts Field lot between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. that day. Please remember to display the appropriate parking pass if you park there before or after those hours. Besides driving or walking to the UNT Coliseum, you can ride one of several UNT buses that stop near the building. Check the latest bus routes and schedules.


University Day: The celebration, first held May 10, 1961, marks the day North Texas State College became North Texas State University, and is an annual event where we celebrate our university status with free food, music and activities.

  • When: 11:30 a.m. April 7 (Friday)
  • Where: Library Mall/Onstead Plaza
  • Menu: Picnic lunch
  • Details: Free with current UNT Faculty, Staff or Student ID

Green and White Game: The annual football scrimmage closes spring practice. It’s also a great way to preview the coming 2017 season.

  • When: 2 p.m., April 8
  • Where: Apogee Stadium
  • Menu: Concessions available for purchase.

Flight Memorial: An annual ceremony when we honor our fallen students, faculty, staff and alumni and celebrate their lives.

  • When: Noon to 1 p.m., April 12 (Wednesday)
  • Where: Onstead Promenade (Library Mall)

We also honor our fallen Eagles in ongoing visible ways:

  • The Sustaining Arch memorial located at Library Mall is an everyday tribute to fallen Eagles.
  • The UNT flag displayed on the south side of the library is lowered when a currently enrolled UNT student passes away.

President’s Staff Sack Lunch: The lunch is hosted every semester by President Neal Smatresk and the administration. Join us as we recognize our Outstanding Departments, Star Performers and Soaring Eagles.

  • When: Noon to 1 p.m., April 20 (Thursday)
  • Where: University Union Ballroom
  • Details: There will be door prizes! Bring your lunch and questions for the President’s Q&A. Dessert and drinks will be provided. Discovery Park participants will have dessert and drinks provided in the College of Engineering Dean’s Conference Room and watch the livestream from your desk. Please bring your business card to be entered in the drawing for door prizes.

Earthfest: A sustainable event celebrating international Earth Day.

  • When: 4 to 7 p.m. April 20 (Thursday)
  • Where: Library Mall/Onstead Plaza
  • Menu: Brats, vegetarian chili, roasted corn and honey sunflower ice cream (subject to change)
  • Details: This year’s event will include live entertainment, local vendors and student organizations, food and educational activities.

Honors Day: The ceremony, celebrated since 1950, honors UNT’s most accomplished and distinguished students.

Commencement: This spring’s commencement features a Graduation Block Party honoring 2017 graduates, College Commencement Ceremonies, Doctoral and Master’s Commencement with Doctoral/M.F.A. Hooding.
