Dear UNT faculty and staff,

There are many events this spring to celebrate and honor our campus community. Mark your calendar now and plan to join us!

March

March is Staff Appreciation Month. UNT will host events and learning sessions to honor UNT’s amazing staff. During the month of March, InHouse will include a special section showcasing the next week’s events and a trivia contest with weekly winners receiving UNT prize packs.

Union Fest: Annual celebration of UNT’s University Union. The day is filled with a variety of events, cake, food and giveaways!

  • When: 8 a.m. to midnight Wednesday, March 7
  • Where: University Union

2018 Conference USA Basketball Championships: Come cheer on your Mean Green men’s and women’s basketball teams in the Conference USA Basketball Championships at The Star.

  • When: March 7-10
  • Where: Ford Center at The Star in Frisco
  • Details: Ticket prices vary and can be purchased through the UNT Athletics Ticket Office by calling 940-565-2527.

Wingspan Gala: The annual gala recognizes UNT’s teaching excellence, student success and generous alumni and friends while raising donations for the President’s Scholarship Fund. This year’s theme is “The Bright Lights of UNT” and will feature alumna and Tony Award-nominated Broadway performer Carmen Cusack.

  • When: 6 p.m. Saturday, March 17
  • Where: University Union
  • Details: Reception will be followed by dinner, program and performances. Table reservations available.                                                                                                          

Service Awards: UNT will recognize employees who in 2017 reached a milestone service anniversary between five and 50 years. Join us to celebrate this year’s honorees.

  • When: 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 20
  • Where: University Union Emerald Ballroom, 314
  • Menu: Light hors d’oeuvres

The Big Event: A nationally recognized day of service celebrated by the UNT community. Each spring, volunteers contribute over 10,000 hours of service in several Denton County cities.

  • When: 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24
  • Where: Onstead Promenade in the Library Mall, then various work locations throughout Denton County
  • Menu: Breakfast will be served.
  • Details: Individual students, student organizations, faculty, staff and alumni are welcome to participate. Participants must register in advance.

Staff Appreciation Lunch and Awards:

  • When: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 28
  • Where: UNT Coliseum. A Staff Appreciation Lunch for staff members at Discovery Park is planned for the same time.
  • If you miss it: The event will be streamed live and recorded for later viewing.
  • Details: Carpooling is encouraged, and no parking tickets will be issued in the Fouts Field lot between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. that day. Please remember to display the appropriate parking pass if you park there before or after those hours. Besides driving or walking to the UNT Coliseum, you can ride one of several UNT buses that stop near the building. Check the latest bus routes and schedules.

Green and White Game: The annual football scrimmage closes spring practice and is a great way to preview the coming 2018 season.

  • When: Friday, March 30
  • Where: Apogee Stadium
  • Menu: Concessions available for purchase.
  • If you miss it: The event will be streamed live and recorded for later viewing. Live stream will be posted at meangreensports.com.
  • Details: The game is open to the public and admission is free. More information will be posted soon at meangreensports.com.

We Care We Count 2018: Faculty and staff show their commitment to UNT students and programs through the annual We Care We Count giving campaign. Donors are entered into weekly prize drawings and this year’s campaign will culminate with a “We Care We Count We Cheers” beer and wine tasting event on Thursday, May 3, at the Union Rooftop Garden featuring a live action game of CLUE and prize giveaways.

  • When: April 2-May 4

International Field Day: Test your skills with games and activities from around the world!

  • When: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5
  • Where: Library Mall

Flight Memorial: An annual ceremony when we honor and celebrate the lives of our fallen students, faculty, staff and alumni.

  • When: Noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11
  • Where: Onstead Promenade in the Library Mall

We also honor our fallen Eagles in ongoing ways:

  • The Sustaining Arch memorial located at the Library Mall is an everyday tribute to fallen Eagles.
  • The UNT flag displayed on the south side of the library is lowered when a currently enrolled UNT student passes away.
  • Notices of deceased students are posted online.
  • Notices of deceased alumni, faculty and staff are posted online.

University Day: The celebration, first held May 10, 1961, marks the day North Texas State College became a university and is an annual event during which we celebrate our higher education status with free food, music and activities.

  • When: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 13
  • Where: Onstead Plaza in the Library Mall
  • Menu: Picnic lunch
  • Details: Free with current UNT faculty, staff or student ID

EarthFest: A sustainable event celebrating international Earth Day.

  • When: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19
  • Where: Onstead Plaza in the Library Mall
  • Details: This year's event will include live entertainment, local vendors and student organizations, food and educational activities.

Honors Day: The ceremony, celebrated since 1950, honors UNT's most accomplished and distinguished students.

  • When: 3 p.m. Friday, April 20
  • Where: Coliseum

President’s Staff Sack Lunch: The lunch is hosted every semester by President Neal Smatresk and the administration. Join us as we recognize our Outstanding Departments, Star Performers and Soaring Eagles.

  • When: Noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 3
  • Where: University Union Emerald Ballroom, 314
  • If you miss it: The event will be streamed live and recorded for later viewing.
  • Details: There will be door prizes! Bring your lunch and questions for the President’s Q&A. Dessert and drinks will be provided. Discovery Park participants will have dessert and drinks provided in the College of Engineering Dean’s Conference Room and may watch the livestream from their desks. Please bring your business card to be entered in the drawing for door prizes.

Commencement Weekend: Spring commencement festivities include UNT’s second annual Graduation Block Party honoring 2018 academic year graduates along with eight commencement ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate students.
