Plan ahead for commencement ceremonies, parking and traffic May 10 - 12

Dear UNT community,

It’s commencement time and UNT is celebrating the Class of 2018 with ceremonies and UNT’s newest tradition, the UNT Grad Block Party! Spring commencement ceremonies will be held May 10-12.

Many people are expected to be on campus to celebrate with graduates. Please be aware of impacts to parking and traffic and prepare for congestion. Plan ahead and allow extra travel time to, from and on campus.

Commencement Schedule

  • May 10: Honors College Medallion Ceremony will be at 6 p.m. at the Murchison Performing Arts Center.
  • May 11: Undergraduate College Commencement Ceremonies will take place throughout the day at the UNT Coliseum and the Murchison Performing Arts Center.
  • May 11: The Grad Block Party will be held from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the Library Mall, Union South Lawn and along Highland Street between Avenue A and Avenue C.   
  • May 12: Remaining Undergraduate College Commencement Ceremonies will be held throughout the day at the UNT Coliseum.
  • May 12: Doctoral and Master’s Commencement will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the UNT Coliseum, followed by a reception until 10:30 p.m. inside the Gateway Center Ballroom.

Transit Services May 11-13

UNT Shuttle buses’ regularly scheduled routes will not operate May 11-13, with the exception of the Discovery Park bus on May 11. Please note that the Discovery Park bus will not operate May 12-13.

Designated Commencement Parking May 10-12

  • For the Honors College Medallion Ceremony and the TAMS commencement on May 10, graduates and guests will be allowed to park in Fouts Field. All other campus parking lots will operate as usual that evening. 
  • Parking May 11-12 for graduates and their guests is reserved at Fouts Field. Additional parking is available in Lots 14, 15, 17, 32, 33, 42, 36, 37, 39, 40 and the Highland Street Garage. Please see link to map below.
  • Parking May 11-12 for faculty participating in commencement events is reserved at Lot 26 near the College of Music practice rooms. 
  • ADA parking is reserved in Lot 27 next to the UNT Coliseum.
  • Carpooling is strongly encouraged.
  • Three UNT event shuttles will operate for commencement Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12. One shuttle will travel along North Texas Boulevard, back and forth between the Coliseum and parking lots near West Hall. The other two shuttles will travel east on Highland Street and west on Maple Avenue between Avenue D and Avenue A.

Faculty and Staff Parking May 11

  • Lot 24 will close the evening of May 9 and will remain closed through May 12.
  • Faculty and staff who are working May 11 may park in the top two floors of the Highland Street Garage or the top two floors of the Union Garage. All vehicles must be moved from the Union Garage by noon on May 11 in preparation for the Grad Block Party.
