Please stay safe this Halloween – A Message from the President

Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020

Dear UNT Students,

With Halloween just two days away and on a Saturday this year, I know it is incredibly tempting to let down your guard and celebrate at parties because it's fun. But considering the growing number of cases in Denton and on our campus, I urge you to use caution and carefully consider the risk associated with any plans you make. We have been handling the threat of COVID-19 remarkably well as a community because you have been considerate, empathetic, and careful. I am so proud to see the maturity and kindness you have shown toward one another in your actions.

You should avoid parties and gatherings to stay safe and remember we are not allowing gatherings outside of class of more than 10 people for any purpose. When we see increases in COVID-19 cases, it's almost always due to larger, off-campus events.

We only have a few weeks left in the fall semester, and I am asking for your cooperation to help keep our community as safe as possible, and to keep your families safe as many of you head home. Your actions this weekend could prevent you and your loved ones from being another statistic in this global pandemic.

Sincerely,
Neal Smatresk
UNT President
