Promoting UNT’s ethical reputation and reporting issues — A Message from the President

Feb. 11, 2020

Dear UNT faculty and staff,

UNT’s caring nature is a trait that differentiates us from other universities, and is reflected in the ethical and honest ways in which we conduct business. As a reminder, every member of our UNT family plays a part in ensuring UNT conducts its business in an ethical manner.  Guidance for ethical decision making can be found in UNT's ethics policy. Similarly, by reporting concerns of unethical or illegal misconduct, you help UNT become a more ethical institution.

If you have factual information suggestive of fraudulent, wasteful or abusive activities involving any university member, employee, student, or other affiliate, you should report it to the UNT Trust Line. Examples of reportable issues include conflicts of interest, discrimination, fraud, misuse of university resources or information, NCAA violations, theft, or violations of safety rules or environmental laws.

The UNT Trust Line is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and operated by EthicsPoint, an independent third-party vendor. Reports can be anonymous and made via telephone at 1-877-606-9187 or webform. All actionable reports submitted through the UNT Trust Line will be reviewed by University Compliance and Ethics and investigated by the appropriate unit.

We encourage you to first discuss any concerns with your supervisor or manager. If you do not feel comfortable discussing your concerns directly with your supervisor, you can make a report through the UNT Trust Line. UNT does not tolerate retaliatory action taken toward any person who, in good faith, reports, seeks guidance regarding compliance concerns, or participates in a compliance-related investigation.

UNT intends to cultivate an environment where open, honest communication is the expectation. If you have questions regarding the operation of the UNT Trust Line please contact the Office of University Compliance and Ethics at compliance@unt.edu or 940-565-4142.

Thank you for the service you provide to UNT, our students, and our community.

UNT Proud,
Neal Smatresk
President
