Good morning!

Did you know taking one summer course increases the likelihood of four-year graduation by close to 30 percent for students who start at UNT as a freshman?

At UNT, student success is our most important commitment. Encouraging our students to graduate on time is one of the best ways we can help them achieve their career goals sooner.

Over the next few weeks, I encourage you to discuss with students their plans for summer and fall classes. Remind them when registration opens and encourage them to register as early as possible to lock in their courses. Share with them how important summer classes can be to getting ahead or staying on track. Our colleges and schools will be offering 10 percent more summer classes this year, so it's easier than ever before to find the courses they need. If you hear that a student can't find the right fit for their success, please ask them for more details — and tell us. We may be able to make it happen.

The UNT community can conveniently learn all about what we have to offer during summer sessions at summer.unt.edu.

On Tuesday, March 20, we will help our students get the ball rolling on summer planning with a fun reminder that registration for summer and fall semesters will be opening soon. You can help build on the spirit of celebration by dressing in “professional beach attire” (think green Hawaiian shirts, not shorts and flip flops — or hey, maybe?). But most importantly, remember to talk with students about making plans to register so they can achieve the UNT promise — the best educational experience in Texas.

Thank you for everything you do to help our students succeed and to make UNT great.

UNT Proud,

Neal Smatresk

President
