Student parking updates for the Spring 2017 semester

Jan. 12, 2017

Dear UNT students,

Transportation Services welcomes you back to campus for the spring semester and we want to update you on a few changes.

In addition to adding new routes to the Victory Hall area to help you take advantage of the 500 extra parking spaces in that area, we are working on a GPS locator that will help riders track the after-hours e-ride buses so you can better plan for your travel needs. This is expected to be ready Jan. 17. More information will be posted on the Transportation Services website.

Transportation Services is also happy to announce the addition of two new resources to help with campus transportation and parking needs. Parkmobile, a pay-by-phone app, will allow those without permits to pay by the hour and park in Lots 5, 7, 23, 25, 55, 92, 93 and 96; at meters on Highland Street, West Sycamore near the Pohl Recreation Center and McConnell Hall, and Oak Street; and in the Union Circle Garage. Zipcar allows all UNT community members ages 18 and older to rent a car by the hour. Parkmobile and Zipcar officially launched today and you can find out more about them at tomorrow’s the Mean Green Spring Fling event from 6-8 p.m. in Union 314.

As a reminder, visitor parking is limited to Lots 5, 25 and the Union Circle Garage.

We know we have for a lot of patience and cooperation by you and the entire UNT community this year. As an auxiliary unit that operates solely on its own revenues to fund maintenance and personnel, we strive to keep rates affordable while being attentive to the needs of the UNT community. Transportation Services recognizes the need for new parking lots or garages, but with land accrual and construction costs ranging up to $20 million our first priority is to work the resources we have right now. In the coming months, additional work will begin on parking lots near the Victory Hall area, which will provide 550 additional spaces for students. We will keep you informed of the progress on those as we move forward.

If you have any parking or transportation questions, we encourage you to stop by our office on the first floor of Highland Street Garage or contact us at 940-565-3020 or You can also keep up with us on Twitter, @UNTtransit, or on Facebook,
