Dear UNT community,
You’ve likely heard by now that we’re opening a new off-site instructional facility in Frisco in January, an initiative that is all about thinking outside of the box. This is a bold step forward for UNT because we’re taking an entrepreneurial approach to education. And by locating in one of the nation’s fastest-growing and industry-rich areas, we’re cementing our place as the University for all of North Texas.
We have a name that captures the essence of what we’re doing.
University of North Texas New College at Frisco
A new way of thinking.
A new way of doing business.
A new kind of education.
As the name and taglines suggest, the New College is not about replicating what we do here at UNT, but applying what we do in different ways. Instead of building classes and programs purely by academic discipline, we’re building them to suit the needs of our students and of industry — relying on the strong academic foundation that is UNT’s hallmark.
The ultimate goal of any course at UNT’s New College is to give students and working professionals the knowledge and core skills they need for success. The curriculum will integrate technology, communication and industry engagement so students get hands-on, practical experience. And because of its great location in a corporate hotspot, the New College will give students the chance to engage with industry insiders. We’ll collaborate with companies to bring their leaders into the classroom and to offer programming that fits their workforce needs.
UNT’s New College is about “learning beyond the walls,” moving education beyond the confines of a specific discipline and out of the classroom as much as possible. We’re able to do this because UNT has 125 years of experience preparing students to be workforce leaders. All of our programs do a great job of giving our students knowledge and career skills, and this off-site instructional facility offers the best of many different worlds.
You can learn more about UNT’s New College at Frisco and the spring courses being offered there at our new website and in our story. We’re starting with core academic and professional development courses in the spring. By fall, we’ll offer a broad range of academic classes, professional development courses and K-12 programs, centered on the needs and growth of a region that is a huge draw for industry and families.
This is an exciting time for UNT as we expand our reach and our impact. I can’t wait for what’s next!
