UNT will provide a merit pool for faculty and staff

Dec. 12, 2017

Dear UNT faculty and staff,

While it has been a lean budget year, I feel that we have accomplished more this past year than in the previous three years I have been here. Your hard work and support of our students deserves recognition and support, so I am pleased to announce that I have authorized a 2 percent merit pool this year, effective Feb. 1, which will be reflected in March 1, 2018 paychecks.

Although modest, this pool will provide our leaders with the opportunity to reward the efforts that are truly making a difference in our journey and is a sincere acknowledgement of the commitment to going above and beyond that so many of our faculty and staff members exhibit.

Managers will receive instructions on the merit process later this month and have the opportunity to recommend employees for consideration. The staff merit process will be streamlined to eliminate extra paperwork and be posted to the announcements section of the Budget Office website by Wednesday, Dec. 13. The Office of the Provost will distribute instructions regarding the faculty merit process to deans by the end of the day today.

And in case you missed the holiday party last week, I announced that UNT will begin winter break a few hours early and close at noon Friday, Dec. 22. It’s a small gesture to thank each of you for all your hard work.

Your dedication to our mission is the reason we are enjoying so much success in providing the best education in Texas to our students at an affordable price. I am grateful for the privilege of working with all of you — the best team I have ever known — and I am deeply gratified by your accomplishments every day.

UNT Proud,

Neal Smatresk
