Employers prefer to hire graduates with hands-on experience in their majors. You can gain real-world experience and enhance your classroom learning at the University of North Texas through internships.
In addition to providing insight into your future career, working as an intern gives you a competitive advantage in the job market because of the skills you develop while in the position.
The Career Center can help you obtain high quality internships prior to graduation. These opportunities are available locally and abroad.
We work closely with potential and existing employers to promote internships within their organizations. We have successfully increased the quality and quantity of internships for our students. To date, we work with more than 4,000 employers such as:
No special application process is required to explore these opportunities. The Career Center also hosts several career-related workshops that are open to all enrolled students.
Internships are work experiences (typically one semester) related to your field of study and emphasize on-the-job training. Internships can be part time or full time and are available throughout the year. The summer is the most popular season for obtaining internships.
Internships allow you to:
Although some internships are unpaid, the center strives to promote paid opportunities. Internships can lead to permanent job offers after graduation. Some degree programs require students to fulfill an internship as part of their course work, and the center can help place students with mandatory internships.
Depending on your major, you may be eligible to receive academic credit for your internship. The center works with faculty members to determine your academic credit. Departments often evaluate credit based on:
To better serve our students, we operate two offices in different locations. The main office is in Chestnut Hall, Suite 103. To better serve students in the College of Engineering and the College of Information, we have an office at Discovery Park, Suite C111. Discovery Park is the university's 300- acre research facility located 4.5 miles north of the main campus.
The Career Center also provides assistance with on- and off-campus employment, work study opportunities, and resume and cover letter writing, among other career-related services.
