Veterans Services

You've invested so much of yourself serving in the military, and you've had experiences that most of us will never have. At the University of North Texas, it's our turn to invest in you.

We're committed to providing support en route to academic and personal success for you and your family. Home to 2,500 veterans and their dependents, we've been named a Military Friendly School by MilitaryFriendly.com and a Top School by Military Advanced Education.

With supportive services designed to help ease your transition to civilian life, top-notch academics and a campus full of activities and entertainment, UNT is the place for you.

Receive a quality education

UNT provides a traditional college experience and the quality of a private university at an affordable cost.

We're one of the largest providers of online courses among Texas public universities and offer a customizable Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (B.A.A.S.) degree that can give you academic credit for military training courses and previous college courses you've taken. This can put you on the fast track to a bachelor's degree.

Outstanding individual support

The university offers a variety of services that help remove barriers and connect you to resources and others who understand your unique situation. The services include:

  • UNT Student Veteran Services office — a safe place to help student veterans navigate university resources for academic success. Student veteran peer mentors are available by calling 940-369-8021 or sending an email.
  • Student Veterans Association of UNT — provides camaraderie and support through monthly meetings and social programs throughout the academic year.
  • SALUTE Veterans Honor Society — recognizes active military and student veterans who've earned a minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA or 3.5 graduate GPA.

Looking out for your well-being

In addition to your academic success, we want you to maintain and progress toward optimal health. Several services are available that address both the physical and psychosocial trauma caused from a combat injury. They are:

  • UNT Counseling and Testing Services — offers individual, group and couples counseling, with an emphasis on the specific issues facing veterans.
  • Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Clinic — provides comprehensive clinical audiologic diagnostic and rehabilitative services and devices that assist veterans in alleviating and coping with hearing loss or damage to their hearing.
  • Office of Disability Accommodation — assists with adaptive strategies and academic accommodations if you qualify for disability accommodation. Family and parenting services are available from family developmental specialists at UNT and community partners such as Texas HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) and AmeriCorps VISTA.
