Annual Space Survey Begins March 1

The Office of Space Management and Planning is preparing for its annual space survey, and it needs each department’s help to make sure UNT has an accurate record of how it uses its space.

UNT is required by state and federal law to keep this information, and it helps the university secure federal research reimbursements and state funding for construction projects.

Space management leaders are conducting the survey from March 1 - 31. The space survey will collect data such as:

·         Types of rooms

·         Function of each room

·         Capacity and occupants of each room

·         Accounts that fund sponsored research activities and associated equipment of rooms

·         Chemicals stored and used in rooms

Each department or unit should have chosen someone to respond to the survey and someone to approve it. They need to know how their department uses each room and how the activities in each room are funded, especially in research-intensive areas. Each department will receive a list of the spaces it is assigned and a description of how that space is classified. The departments must verify the information, descriptions and classifications room-by-room.

The Office of Space Management will train both the respondents and approvers at the following times:

·         10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 27 (Monday), Chilton Hall, Room 245

·         3:00 to 4:30 p.m. March 1 (Wednesday), Chilton Hall, Room 245
