Call for Nominations for UNT’s Innovator Awards

Nominations for the Office of Research and Innovation’s 2017 Innovator Awards are due by 5 p.m. May 1, 2017. Those selected from among the nominees will receive a cash award.

The Innovator Awards recognize members of the UNT community who have developed new methods, ideas, products or processes displaying true innovation. Complementing other awards and recognitions by the Office of Research and Innovation and other UNT units, the Innovator Awards seek to highlight students, faculty and staff members particularly who have developed intellectual property that has or can lead to patents, copyrights, licensing and commercialization.

Four recognitions will be made:

Innovator Award for a faculty member: This award recognizes a faculty member who has had an executed license, or for which license is expected, for intellectual property patented at UNT.

Innovator Award for a graduate student: This award goes to a graduate student who has either led or contributed significantly to development of intellectual property with patent, copyright and licensing potential.

Innovator Award for an undergraduate student: This award goes to an undergraduate student who has either led or contributed significantly to development of intellectual property with patent, copyright and licensing potential.

Innovator Award for a staff member: This award recognizes a staff member who has either led or contributed significantly to development of intellectual property with patent, copyright and licensing potential at UNT or otherwise has displayed true innovation in the development, deployment or execution of new methods, ideas, products or processes.

The inaugural recipients in 2016 of the Innovator Awards were Guido Verbeck (faculty member), Dereck Nelson (graduate student), Christopher Kennedy (undergraduate student), and Peter Palacios (staff member).

Nominations may be made by faculty and staff and can be emailed to intramuralgrants@unt.edu by 5 p.m. May 1, 2017. Submissions may not exceed 200 words. Optional supporting material may be included as an attachment to the email.
