Spread some holiday cheer by donating to UNT's annual toy drive

Toy Drive 2018

The Mean Green community has until noon on Thursday, Dec. 13 to join the UNT Staff Senate in supporting WFAA’s annual Santa’s Helpers Toy Drive by donating new, unwrapped toys.

Donation boxes are located in almost every major campus building, including residence halls and academic buildings.

The toy drive benefits children and families in Denton County who are unable to purchase gifts for the holiday season. Members of the Staff Senate will deliver the donations to the Denton County Toy Store the same day the drive ends.

Katie McCoy, Murchison Performing Arts Center Event Coordinator, is the current Staff Senate Chair and has helped to head the drive.

“To be able to help families and children in need celebrate the holidays is a wonderful thing,” McCoy says. “This is something that really shows how giving UNT really is and how much of an impact we make on our community.”

The donations from UNT has continually increased each year since the annual drive relaunched in 2008. It has given the UNT community a chance to give back and be a part of helping families in need receive a little more holiday cheer.

McCoy says that seeing how generous and caring our campus is through these donations further solidifies the university’s belonging to the Denton community.

"So many families will be affected by the kindness of our campus, and I hope that opportunities like these continue to grow,” McCoy says.
