UNT employees hold the key to security

UNT System Information Technology Shared Services would like to remind the UNT community that employees are key to a safe virtual environment. Continuous security awareness training is important to create consistency and build a solid understanding of organizational security policies and best practices.

Employees should login to the EIS portal (my.unt.edu), make sure they are looking at the Human Resources tab, and click on the link in the Information Security Training section.

The required training comprises nine video courses, which are each 2 to 5 minutes long, so employees can easily complete the training during their work days.  All employees must complete this year’s security awareness training by Dec. 31, 2016.

Remember, cybersecurity is everyone’s responsibility and employees play a very important role in keeping our organization’s resources secure. Therefore, keeping employees educated and trained can help reduce and prevent cyberattacks.

Here are three quick tips to protect yourself:

  • Remember, you are the first line of defense against cyber attackers. Therefore, you should always be security-conscious when receiving suspicious emails or interacting with people you are unfamiliar with. When in doubt, ask your supervisor.
  • Always back up any important information or data using a secure method.
  • Always keep physical security in mind. Physical security is just as important as digital security. Always lock your computer screen and your office door as a way to avoid physical security vulnerability.
