<p>The <strong>33 hour </strong>Research Track prepares students for careers in research and teaching. Through independent study and faculty mentorship, students apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to solve industry problems. </ul></this-program-will-teach-you><program-highlights-label/><program-highlights-1>Our curriculum teaches you how to solve complex problems, create new opportunities in competitive markets and understand the many components that support a successful, consumer-driven business venture.</program-highlights-1><program-highlights-2>As you progress through the program, you may work with a faculty member on funded, cutting-edge research projects such as: customer experience in the marketplace; lifestyle and ethnic influences on purchase motivations and product satisfaction; mobile commerce applications; omnichannel retailing; and sustainable retailing</program-highlights-2><program-highlights-3>Our students often present research or test their merchandising knowledge at regional, national and international events.</program-highlights-3><program-highlights-4>Annual merchandising study tours to New York, China/Hong Kong and London/Paris are offered.</program-highlights-4><program-highlights-5>Excellent networking, internship and employment opportunities are available because of the university's close proximity to leading merchandising, apparel and home furnishing companies.</program-highlights-5><program-highlights-6>Many of our faculty members have been internationally recognized for their research and teaching by the American Textile Manufacturers Institute, the International Textile and Apparel Association, the American Collegiate Retailing Association, and the European Institute of Retailing and Services Studies, among others.</program-highlights-6><career-outlook-label>What you can do with a Master's in Merchandising and Digital Retailing</career-outlook-label><career-outlook><p>A degree in this field can help prepare you for the industry positions such as merchandiser, buyer for retail brands, brand manager and store analyst. Students can also pursue a teaching and research position in higher education. Students can enter a Ph.D. degree after completing the M.S. program for a tenured track position in higher education institutions.</p></career-outlook><courses-label/><course-title-1>Socio-Cultural Analysis of Dress (3 hrs)</course-title-1><course-description-1>Explores the social, psychological and cultural theories of dress and appearance.</course-description-1><course-title-2>Digital Channel Strategies (3 hrs)</course-title-2><course-description-2>Provides a holistic overview of digital retailing strategies through examination of merchandising, marketing and customer experience strategies in digital marketspaces. Focuses on how to help organizations make intelligent decisions while conducting business in the digital age.</course-description-2><course-title-3>Consumer Theory (3 hrs)</course-title-3><course-description-3>Classic and contemporary consumer theories analyzed in situational contexts. Emphasis on formulating integrated consumer behavior models for strategic decision-making in both domestic and international consumer-driven markets in merchandising and hospitality industries.</course-description-3><course-title-4>Sustainable Strategies in Merchandising (3 hrs)</course-title-4><course-description-4>Examines fundamental business tools for the pursuit of sustainable development to business operation in apparel and home furnishings enterprises.</course-description-4><course-title-5>Merchandising Strategies (3 hrs)</course-title-5><course-description-5>Merchandising theory, principles and practice applied to the strategic planning, developing and presenting of textile, apparel and home furnishings product lines.
