Dear students,

As you know, the right to vote is fundamental to your participation in this democracy.  Because we value and encourage our students' participation in the political process, and as required under the Higher Education Act, we write to make you aware of certain information and deadlines related to registering to vote in Texas for the 2020 General Election. 
You are eligible to vote in Texas if:

  • You are a U.S. Citizen,
  • You are a resident of Texas, and
  • You will be 18 years old or older by Nov. 3, 2020.

Registering to Vote:

  • Pick up a Voter Registration application at your library or any government office, or request a printed application or complete an online Voter Registration application from the Secretary of State's website - https://www.votetexas.gov/register/index.aspx
  • Complete the application
  • Sign, date, and mail your completed Voter Registration application to the voter registrar in your county of residence no later than Oct. 5

  • If you are attending a college or university away from home, you can vote early by mail if you claim as your primary residence the address where you live while not attending school. To request an early voting ballot be sent to the address where you will be living at election time, you must fill out an early voting Application for Ballot by Mail - https://webservices.sos.state.tx.us/forms/5-15f.pdf
  • Complete the application
  • Sign, date, and mail your completed early voting Application for Ballot by Mail to the early voting clerk in your county no later than Oct. 19 (must be delivered and received by Oct. 23)
