Freshman Admission Requirements 

The priority application date to be eligible for scholarships is March 1. Applications will continue to be reviewed until July 15.

Guaranteed Admissions Requirements

Texas Top 10%

Students who rank in the top 10% of their high school graduating class are eligible for automatic admission to any public university in Texas. Eligible students must complete the university's application process to take advantage of automatic admission. 

Eagle Advantage

Juniors in participating school districts who rank in the top 20% of their class will earn guaranteed admission to UNT under the Eagle Advantage program. To be accepted into the Eagle Advantage program, qualified students need to apply to UNT and submit SAT or ACT scores.

Eagle Advantage Program 

Unweighted GPA (3.0+)

Students with a cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher are guaranteed admission to UNT. Students' GPAs will be standardized on a 4.0 GPA scale once transcripts are submitted.

Test Score Optional 

UNT is test-score-optional, however, submitting test scores can help determine admission decisions, testing exemptions and scholarship opportunities.

If you have taken the SAT or ACT, please have your scores sent to UNT electronically through the testing service.

Applicants with a GED

An applicant's GED certificate of completion must reflect a minimum score of 165 on each of the four exams. Applicants with scores from 145-164 will be individually reviewed and required to submit additional documents, such as an essay and letters of recommendation.

Applicants who have completed 1-14 hours of college course work must meet a minimum college GPA requirement of 2.5 on a 4-point scale. 

Individual Review of Application

Individual Review is an automatic process that allows UNT Admissions to review the application of any student who does not meet minimum admission requirements. If you are eligible for Individual Review, an email will be sent to you with information on required documentation and how to upload the documents to your myUNT portal.

Factors that may help determine academic readiness under the individual review provision may include, but are not limited to: school attended, courses taken, employment experience, special abilities, individual achievements, leadership activities, public service and extra-curricular activities.

Uniform Admissions Policy

State law TEC 51.803-51.809, Uniform Admissions Policy (UAP) requires applicants of four-year public universities to meet college readiness standards through completion of a high school graduation program or equivalent, or through SAT or ACT score benchmarks. If you attend an out-of-state high schoolyou are exempt from the UAP.

Students must meet one of the following college readiness standards to be eligible for consideration for admission to a Texas four-year public institution:

• Successfully complete the Foundation (HB5), Foundation with Endorsements (HB5), Distinguished Achievement (HB5), Minimum (UAP), Recommended (UAP) or Distinguished (UAP) high school program or complete the portion of the program that was available to them

or 

• Successfully complete a curriculum that is equivalent* in content and rigor to the Foundation, Foundation with Endorsements, Distinguished Achievement, Minimum (UAP), Recommended or Advanced (Distinguished Achievement) high school program at a high school that is exempt from offering such programs.

  *Equivalencies must be documented by the student's high school.

• Satisfy the College Readiness Benchmarks on the SAT or ACT assessment
