Dear UNT Faculty and Staff Colleagues:

I am writing to share with you the important news that Dr. Michael McPherson has decided to step down from his current role as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the conclusion of the spring semester. Mike has served in this capacity since June 2022, following three months in an interim role.

Upon my arrival to UNT in August 2024, Mike immediately became a trusted partner for me and invaluable source of institutional knowledge. Since then, he has continued to expertly help our university navigate complex challenges and opportunities as we seek a bold path forward. I am grateful Mike has accepted my offer to continue to serve UNT as Senior Advisor to the President, a role in which he will continue to lead important efforts to advance the goals outlined in our Look North: UNT 2030 strategic plan, especially goals related to student success and accelerating students’ time to value.

As an expert in the economies of developing countries, Mike’s service to the university dates back to 1992 when he joined the UNT faculty. Prior to his appointment as Provost, he served as Vice Provost for Student Success, acting Dean of the Mayborn School of Journalism, and Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Success. I look forward to his additional contributions to faculty and student success in his new role.

We will host a reception in appreciation to Mike for his service to the university as Provost on Tuesday, May 12, at 5 p.m., in Jade Ballroom (Union, Room 333). I hope you will stop by and join me in congratulating Mike on his many accomplishments.

More information will be shared about an interim Provost appointment after the upcoming Board of Regents meeting.

Respectfully,

Harrison Keller, Ph.D.
President
