Sept. 18, 2018

Dear UNT faculty and staff,

As I announced at the State of the University address last week, we had a phenomenal year in 2017-18. And, even though we continue to be in lean fiscal times, your efforts to make this past year one for the record books deserves recognition.

I am pleased to authorize merit raises for fiscal year 2019. And since I heard you when you asked if raises could come earlier in the fiscal year, we will be making merit awards effective Nov. 1, which means the increases will be included in Dec. 1, 2018, paychecks.

Managers will have the opportunity to recommend employees for consideration, and instructions for the merit process will be shared soon.

Merit raises allow us to reward the efforts of those who are committed to going above and beyond to make a difference for our students and for our university's progress. Your caring and creativity, as well as your commitment to our progress is why our students - and our university - soar higher.

Thank you for all you do. It is a privilege and an honor to work with each of you.

UNT Proud,

Neal Smatresk

President
