Dr. Kathy Brown's art education colleagues describe her as an industrious, creative, persevering, dedicated and supportive faculty member who exemplifies UNT's brand. Her caring and creative spirit earned her UNT Brand Ambassador of the Month honors last week.
“Kathy was nominated as an incredible and caring teacher, who goes above and beyond,” President Smatresk told her art education class as applause from the students erupted. “There are so many accolades from her students and other faculty members that we felt it was important to let her know that she exemplified the caring attribute of this university.”
Since joining UNT in 2019, Brown has been a bright force within her department and college. Her colleagues report that she “consistently extends her generosity and dedication across the areas of service, teaching and creative-scholarly activities. She expands the possibilities for our shared world with hope and graciousness, which is quite a feat in these trying times. Dr. Brown's industrious, can-do spirit inspires our entire department and art education community beyond Denton.”
“Thank you so much, I wasn't expecting this. I appreciate it,” she said at the surprise presentation, as one of her students said, “You deserve this.”
Brown teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Art Education and has been a visiting professor at Texas Woman's University. In her career as a K-8 art educator, several of her students were recognized in prestigious art competitions and she created school-wide programming such as Young Woman's Empowerment Day.
