President Neal Smatresk, Provost Jennifer Cowley and the Office of University Accreditation hosted a kickoff event Feb. 5 to launch activities for the Fifth Year Interim Report for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, UNT's regional accrediting agency.

The SACSCOC reaffirmation of accreditation process occurs every 10 years, and the report at the five-year mark is required to ensure that institutions with access to federal funds are continuing to meet accreditation standards. UNT faculty and staff will be engaging across campus to prepare the report, guided by Assistant Vice Provost Elizabeth Vogt, who serves as UNT's SACSCOC liaison. She will be leading the campus not only through the steps needed to complete the report by December 2021 but also in preparing for a visit by SACSCOC representatives in 2022.

Smatresk and Cowley spoke at the event, and Vogt gave an overview of what will be required in the writing of the report. Attendees included deans, associate deans, chairs, vice presidents and other administrators who will be involved throughout the process.

UNT first received SACS accreditation in 1925, and accreditation was most recently re-affirmed in 2016. Read more about the accreditation process.
