“There are two pedestals, each with a handprint on it. Two people stand on the platform and each one touches a handprint with one of their hands,” Eggert said. “When they connect hands in the middle, it activates a circuit that triggers the inflatable that says ‘You Are Magic' to turn on and blow up. When they release hands, it turns off and deflates.”
Eggert created the inflatable as an expression of what can happen when people work together.
“It's supposed to be about the power of collaboration, people working together and joining forces - how much more can be accomplished versus being divided. It seemed appropriate for the political climate,” Eggert said. “I want to give people a sense of wonder and show them we can do so much if we gather our power together instead of remaining in our little silos.”
The Arlington Art Truck is a program of Arlington Arts and is funded with a $25,000 award from the National Endowment for the Arts. After the inflatable's journey through Arlington, Virginia, Eggert plans to bring it back to Texas for future display.
