When students and faculty need help, Carol Hargis is there.
Hargis is the UNT Libraries humanities and instruction librarian. As subject librarian for the Department of English and the Department of Communication Studies, she's dedicated to supporting faculty in their teaching and research endeavors and assists students when they need support, including through virtual sessions.
That support has earned her the UNT Brand Ambassador Award for April.
“Hargis' work ethic embodies a caring and compassionate spirit that motivates her to support student success inside and outside of the classroom,” says Mary Ann Venner, associate dean for public services and subject librarian for the College of Merchandising, Hospitality and Tourism.
“Her teaching style incorporates an inclusive approach, creating a welcoming and friendly learning environment,” Venner adds. “During this past year, Carol's resilience has shone through as she found new ways to connect and engage with students virtually.”
Hargis, who is also an alum with two degrees from UNT, received the award from President Smatresk on Wednesday.
“It's our pleasure to give you the Brand Ambassador Award as someone who represents the values of our institution and all of the wonderful things that we believe support our students,” he said. “You were nominated because you're so good at reaching out to the students and helping and encouraging them.”
Hargis was caught by surprise.
“I am, to be honest, just shocked,” she said. “I'm very happy and I feel so fortunate to work with such amazing people and to be at this university.”
If you have a faculty or staff colleague you'd like to nominate for the UNT Brand Ambassador of the Month award, email brandambassador@unt.edu with a description and specific examples of why you're nominating the individual.
