UNT Welcome Center opens — A Message from the President

March 19, 2019

Dear UNT faculty and staff,

This week we celebrated the opening of the UNT Welcome Center, our new “front door” to greet prospective students, families and guests when they visit our caring and creative campus. With thousands of visitors annually touring UNT, the Welcome Center's centralized location at the corner of Maple and Highland streets, across from the Highland Street Garage, will be easily accessible for all.

The center includes digital information kiosks, a 150-seat presentation room, a mock residence hall room, conference room, offices for auxiliary services and huddle spaces. The presentation room utilizes cutting edge audio/visual capabilities to entertain, inform and inspire prospective students.

We designed this building to improve the prospective student tour experience and seamlessly connect them with the information needed to make college enrollment decisions. We moved the Dining Services and Housing and Residence Life offices to the Welcome Center's second floor so that questions can easily be answered before or after a campus tour.

If you know of students in the midst of their college search, encourage them to come take a tour. Our Eagle Ambassadors do an excellent job showcasing life at UNT by highlighting our buildings, sharing facts and discussing our campus' unique culture and spirit. We have tours for everyone — freshmen, transfer and graduate students — and they can be booked at tours.unt.edu.

In the coming weeks, I hope you will take time to drop by to see the new facility and its capabilities. The building is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and beginning at 9 a.m. Saturdays for tours. While you are there, be sure to greet tour participants you encounter and tell them what you love most about the Mean Green family.

UNT Proud,
Neal Smatresk
