Learn about the science of behavior and the technology of behavior change.
UNT's innovative Behavior Analysis Master's will give you a broad and deep education in behavior analysis, including: knowledge of principles, theory and research methods of applied behavior analysis and the experimental analysis of behavior; principles and procedures for systematic application of behavioral technology in natural environments; and practical experience in diverse areas such as neuro-operant interventions, functional analysis, early autism intervention, animal welfare, college teaching and social justice.

Why Earn a Master's in Behavior Analysis?

Behavior analysis is the study of the effects of an environment on the behavior of individuals. The principles can be used to understand behavior and that understanding can then be applied to help individuals learn and live happy, productive lives. They can be applied with any population, including children with autism, people with developmental disabilities, parents and children, pets and their owners, college students, healthcare providers, athletes, employers and CEOs.

Our program will teach you about both experimental analysis of behavior and applied behavior analysis, which will prepare you for further study in a doctoral program or careers in a variety of settings. In addtion to providing you with a broad understanding of behavior principles while encouraging the development of specialized skills in specific areas, our program will prepare you for certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

Our curriculum focuses on:

  • Knowledge of principles of behavior, their conceptual basis and behavior analytic research methodology
  • How to design procedures for the systematic application of behavioral technology in applied settings
  • Practical experience in the implementation and analysis of behavior intervention programs
  • Skills for conducting research in natural settings and for modeling phenomena in laboratory settings

Behavior Analysis Master's Highlights

Behavior Analysis Master's Courses You Could Take

Theory and Philosophy in Behavior Analysis (3 hrs)
Study of the conceptual framework of behavior analysis; studies epistemological issues and nature of scientific explanation; examines common misconceptions and provides theoretical foundations for applications and basic research.
Introduction to Behavior Analysis (3 hrs)
Defines and delimits the subject matter of behavior analysis. Examines the principles that describe behavioral processes and distinguishes the learned and unlearned components of operant and respondent behavior. Relates behavior change procedures to the processes accounting for learned behavior.
Techniques in Applied Behavior Analysis (3 hrs)
The subject matter of behavior analysis is environment-behavior interactions. Applied behavior analysis is the branch of this natural science that studies environment-behavior interactions in situations believed to be socially important. The primary goal of the course is to provide students with a contemporary view of applied behavior analysis and its methods, contributions, and controversies. An emphasis is placed on identifying and understanding effective behavior change techniques.
Verbal Behavior and the Analysis of Human Behavior (3 hrs)
Use of behavior analysis in understanding the nature and development of human communication. Explores how and why communication fails; develops guidelines for enhancing communication through understanding of the underlying behavioral processes.
Observation and Measurement of Behavior and Environment (3 hrs)
Examination of the factors to be considered in observing and measuring behavior and environment; methods of recording data with emphasis on the conditions under which each method is most appropriate.
