German Studies Degree Highlights

We work closely with the Study Abroad office to provide multiple opportunities for international work and study. These opportunities allow you to immerse yourself in the language and experience the culture first hand.
We offer a variety of opportunities to practice German and learn more about the cultures, including conversation groups and film series.
Our World Language Learning Center provides 80 computer workstations, more than 30 software programs for self-study and assignments, multi-language audio and video media and presentation equipment.
The Career Center, Learning Center and professional academic advisors are among the many valuable resources that are available to you at UNT. The Career Center can provide advice about internships, future employment opportunities and getting hands-on experience in your major.

German Studies Degree Courses You Could Take

German Phonetics (3 hrs)
German phonetic system and pronunciation practice.
Contemporary Germany (3 hrs)
Selected readings and films on history and culture of Germany since 1945.
Professional German (3 hrs)
Expands and deepens students’ cultural competency and communication skills by focusing on topics related to German business practices, the role of Germany in the European Union, science and technology, and the various professions associated with these subjects. All readings, course assignments, and discussions are conducted in the target language.
German Short Stories (3 hrs)
Introduction to short stories from the German-speaking countries and their respective authors. Analysis of the literary texts includes the discussion of thematically related topics of German, Austrian and Swiss culture.
Cultural History of Berlin (3 hrs)
Selected readings and video sequences on the history and culture of Berlin with emphasis on communication skills.
Advanced German I: Oral Communication (3 hrs)
Intensive practice in spoken German through an exploration of civilization topics.
