Why Earn a Kinesiology Master's?

The Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation offers coursework leading to a Master of Science degree in kinesiology with concentrations in exercise physiology, sport pedagogy, or sport and exercise psychology. We also participate in three collaborative doctoral degree programs.

Research is a fundamental component of our kinesiology master’s program, and you will have numerous opportunities to participate in groundbreaking research on campus. Some of our current research areas include motor behavior, exercise physiology, nutrition, immunology, sport sociology, stress reactivity, cerebral blood flow regulation, exercise interventions and health disparities.

Our faculty members are outstanding teachers, recognized scholars and active researchers. They’ve earned honors from the American College of Sports Medicine, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, and the Society of Health and Physical Educators.

Kinesiology Master's Courses You Could Take

Research Perspectives in Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation (3 hrs)
Research techniques and their application to the research process in kinesiology, health promotion and recreation.
Sport and Exercise Psychology (3 hrs)
Introduces students to the science of psychology in sport and exercise settings. Topics include motivation, mental preparation strategies, arousal-performance relationship, exercise adherence, and exercise and mental health.
Quantitative Procedures in Exercise and Sport Sciences (3 hrs)
In-depth study of analysis techniques necessary for scientific investigations in exercise and sport. Emphasis is placed on computer applications, advanced data analysis, techniques and interpretation of resulting analyses.
Physiology of Exercise (3 hrs)
Functional responses of the human body during movement; emphasis on elementary principles and basic research underlying a sound, safe and healthy exercise regimen.
Motor Behavior (3 hrs)
Examination of the major behavioral processes and control mechanics underlying the learning and performance of motor skills.
