    Chancellor Lee F. Jackson announces retirement plans after guiding UNT System through period of unprecedented growth

    DALLAS - University of North Texas System Chancellor Lee F. Jackson today announced plans to retire before the end of 2017 from a position he has held for 15 years. Jackson, the second Chancellor in UNT System history, is currently the longest-serving university system chancellor in the State of Texas and has guided UNTS and its three universities through a period of unprecedented growth since being appointed by its Board of Regents in 2002.

    Jennifer Evans-Cowley, a UNT alumna with more than a decade of experience in higher education leadership, has been named the new provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of North Texas.

    UNT President Neal Smatresk said he is excited to have an alumna leading UNT’s academic community, someone who knows firsthand the quality of a UNT education.

    UNT student is first to complete 3D image chemical mapping of seed important in genetic research

    DENTON (UNT), Texas – Arabidopsis thaliana is a seed so tiny that it can fit into Abraham Lincoln’s eye on a penny. Its small size, rapid life cycle and ability to produce thousands of seeds make this plant perfect for research. Now scientists who use it for studies have a new advantage. Drew Sturtevant, a student from the University of North Texas, was just able to complete 3D imaging of the inside of this tiny seed that reveals its chemical mapping for the first time.
