Students chose green as UNT’s color more than a century ago to gain Mother Nature’s favor. And it’s long been more than a school color to us. It’s a sign of our long-running dedication to being environmentally responsible — from our first research in examining differences in tap water to today's numerous academic programs focused on environmental sustainability to our energy-saving efforts in our eco-friendly buildings. We are leading the way as a sustainable campus and teaching our students to carry on a lifelong commitment to being green.

UNT’s University Union, which opened in 2015, is a campus gathering place, built to stringent environmental standards. It will be our sixth LEED-certified building, joining such jewels as DATCU Stadium — the first newly constructed collegiate football stadium in the nation to achieve LEED Platinum Certification, the highest level.

  • FIRST: UNT is Texas’ first large public university to sign the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment.
  • 7: UNT has been named a Green College by The Princeton Review.
