Each fall, thousands of University of North Texas students earn their degrees and become UNT alumni. Every one of them should be tremendously proud of everything they've accomplished in their time in Denton.

Hayley BrownHayley Brown has been an educator in Texas public schools for 16 years. She joined the Happy Friday, North Texas!Podcast to talk about graduating with her master’s in educational leadership while balancing the demands of being a teacher, wife and mother.

When Brian Hale crossed the UNT commencement stage in 2008 to earn his bachelor's degree, he knew he'd made his parents proud. But he wouldn’t know exactly how proud until 17 years later, when his father, Bob— inspired by Brian’s success — crossed that very same stage.

Betty BajikaBetty Bajika, who is earning her Master of Science in Health Informatics, is part of the UNT PUSH program that serves students who experienced foster care and a dedicated member of the cross country and track teams. She moved to the United States from the Democratic Republic of the Congo at 9 years old, learned English and navigated the foster care system in Texas, ultimately earning her master’s degree while consistently appearing on the dean’s and president’s lists. She credits her faith for her perseverance and volunteers mentoring children in schools and helping at food banks.
Dana MaysDana Mays, assistant director of Police Administrative Services at the UNT Police Department, is a seasoned public safety professional, a devoted spouse and daughter — and now, a UNT graduate. Graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree with concentrations in Administration, Organizational Management/Supervision and Social Wellness, Dana’s return to school was driven by determination, family and a promise she made long ago.
